Cats and Cars

Just around the corner, on Main street, we strolled into a Rockabilly event. Nice to see that this is still alive.

Hands on Science

Another week of summer camp activity, this time at the HMNS. Linus focused on 'Booms and Blast Offs' and I on the artificial and staged environment of the museum. One of our favorite places in Houston.

Diving in Color

Time to relax and meditate while watching James Turrell's color skyspace -Twilight Epiphany. There is a sunrise and sunset sequence everyday. Will see if we can make it to a sunrise as well.

Club Tropicana

One of those favorite things to do in Houston: swimming in a pool. Even when it's Rice University I can imagine Club Tropicana, only drinks are missing…

Third Ward

Leaving our 'comfort zone' and discover the Third Ward in Houston, we visited Project Row Houses as a first step to get in contact with the African-American Community.
"The mission of Project Row Houses is to be the catalyst for transforming community through the celebration of art and African-American history and culture."
Beside the Project Row Houses the Eldorado Ballroom is another Texas Hisorical Marker which is used for events now, but unfortunately it had lost a bit of its historic charm during the last years. "Erected in 1939, the Eldorado was the centerpiece of its neighborhood and hosted top names in blues, jazz and R&B - Count Basie, B.B. King, Ike & Tina Turner, Guitar Slim, Etta James, Jimmy Reed - from the 1940s to the 1970s."

Wildlife experience

Like a little treasure in Houston's concrete jungle is the Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire. Kids can discover animals and nature in a relaxing environment, almost a little bit European stylish.

Island Art Adventure

If you can't be on an island, then build one of your own. You can use a treasure map and finally find your treasure chest. Linus enjoyed this creative activity during the summer holiday. And look, there's a little island right at the street with a fascinating river run.

Cool down

One way to avoid the heat is to cool down with a milkshake in a diner.
As well a relaxing place while checking some sporting events, this time the World Cup.

19th Street

The 19th street in the Heights, beside Montrose another alternative neighborhood in Houston, provides lots of little treasures.
I was definitely very delighted discovering this cats at Retropolis. At least I was lucky to find an old cassette player. Perfect for playing my old tapes now.
